Government of India implements multiple schemes to support meritorious Indian students who wish to study abroad. Many State Governments also implement similar schemes.
The Schemes provide financial assistance to those interested in pursuing higher education abroad in the accredited Institutions / Universities in various fields of studies like Engineering and Management, Pure Sciences & Applied Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Medicine, Commerce, Accounting & Finance, Humanities and Social Sciences.
The number of awards per year may vary under various schemes, subject to the availability of funds. A certain percentage of most of the awards are earmarked for women candidates. Vacant slots of previous year if any are usually carried forward.
The Indian government has also introduced a list of new scholarships for students belonging to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward classes.
